A quick word about rolling back to an earlier version of your work in teamwork.
I just recovered days worth of work, so I’m happy to give this feature a high grade. Basic description below, followed by an idea of how to use this tool in a more intentional way to manage design options.
There are two types of backups: Automatic, and Manual.
- Automatic backups operate like Time Machine: set the frequency, and the number of backup copies you want. The ArchiCAD Backup Bot will silently leap into action and work in the background.
- Manual backups can be made at any time. Cristen them with a meaningful name. Manual backups are retained forever, until intentionally deleted by you.
Step one is to set the schedule of backups to the server.
To rollback to another file, simply select the backup you want from the list and click “Rollback…” You’ll be asked if you want to overwrite your existing file (don’t) or create a new file from the backup (recommended). Bump your teamwork project version number up by one and save. The new file will instantly be added to the Open/Join Teamwork dialog. Re-join and you’re on your way.
HOW to work with Design options for a teamwork project
Create Backup Copy of Original “Starting Point”
Work as usual in your project. When you reach a point at which several design variations are possible, you can save the current version as your original “starting point”.
- Do a “Send and Receive.”
- Go to Project Settings and click Create to create a manual backup of the current project version; give it a name (e.g. “Original version”).
- Click OK and exit Project Settings. (This step will create the backup). Then keep working in the project.
Save Design Variation
When you have created a design variation that you want to keep, save it as a separate, named backup.
- Do a “Send and Receive.”
- Go to Project Settings and click Create to create a manual backup of the current project version; give it a name (e.g. “Variant 1 – Enclosed terrace”).
- Click OK and exit Project Settings. (This step will create the backup). Then keep working in the project.
Return to Starting Point; Save Next Design Variation
Now, if you want, you can go back to the original starting point, before you start designing a newer variation. To do this,
- Go to Project Settings. Select the backup entitled “Original version” and click Rollback.
- Choose “Overwrite this project.” Your current project will revert to the “starting point” of your design variations.
- Click OK and exit Project Settings, then keep working in the project.
- Again, when you create a design variation you want to keep, follow the steps above (under “Save Design Variation”) to create another named manual backup.
Repeat this process as needed to create a named backup for every design variation for which you want to keep a separate record.
